COMMON LOCALE DATA REPOSITORY (CLDR)

The Common Locale Data Repository Project , often abbreviated as CLDR, is a project of the Unicode Consortium to provide locale data in the XML format for use in computer applications for multilingual support. CLDR contains locale specific information that an operating system will typically provide to applications. CLDR is written in LDML (Locale Data Markup Language). http://cldr.unicode.org/

CLDR contains the following types of data:

::

Translations for language names, translations for territory and country names, translations for currency names, translations for time-zones, translations for calendar fields, example set characters used by each language, Collation and Sorting Order , Patterns for formatting/parsing a number, Patterns for formatting/parsing a date or time.

CLDR Process:

::

When gathering data for a region and language, it is important to have multiple sources for that data to produce the most widely acceptable data.

::

Initial versions of data were based on the best available sources, but CLDR data will be modified and improved, in successive versions, by more input from the contributors inside and outside of the Unicode Consortium.

::

CLDR is a Repository, not a Registration. It will be vetted against the best available information.

::

Inputs are open, and gathered via the CLDR Survey Tool or recorded in a bug/feature request database (CLDR Bug Reports).

::

Changes in response to requests in the database may be entered into the repository snapshot over time by the maintainers of the repository, but the final approval of the release of any version of CLDR is up to the decision of the CLDR Technical Committee.

1. Automated CLDR Tool
Under TDIL programme CDAC has developed CLDR tool for offline data entry for four languages viz. Assamese, Bodo, Manipuri and Nepali. The Common Locale Data Repository Tool (CLDR) is a good way to enter data in any particular Indian language and store data in xml file format.

Download CLDR tool
Assamese | Bodo | Manipuri | Nepali
After entering the complete data, kindly send the generated XML file at the any of the following email id:

Name: Shri Somnath Chandra
E-mail Id: schandra[AT]mit.gov.in
